Perry Wood

Perry Wood is a very special ancient woodland lying in Selling and Chilham parishes. It is designated as a Local Wildlife Site and is owned by Swale Borough Council, used mostly for wildlife conservation and quiet recreation. The nature here is more similar to the Blean, and a new Kent Wildlife Trust management plan is encouraging heathland restoration in some areas of the wood. The views are stunning and panoramic giving a unique perspective on the landscape of this part of the Kent Downs.

A dedicated Heritage Lottery Fund project has been developed by the Mid Kent Downs Countryside Partnership on behalf of Swale Borough Council. This ‘Discover Perry Wood’ project has enabled historical research, collation of wildlife information, celebratory events and new visitor information. You can also join the Friends of Perry wood from the new Perry Wood website. www.perrywood.org.uk
